Teachers As Readers Book Groups
Sponsored by the Portland Reading Council
TAR Book Groups are perfect for teachers who want to meet regularly to discuss books they are reading. In the spirit of professional growth, teachers use the knowledge and ideas they learn to create richly literate classrooms where students read with confidence and pleasure.
The Portland Reading Council has available funds to support TAR Book Groups this school year.

Frequently Asked Questions
• What do we read?
Your choice! Ideas: professional books, children’s books, YA titles, etc. One group read books written by the speakers / authors featured at the annual reading conference in February.
• Where and when do we meet?
Your choice! Some groups meet before or after school at their building or at a local coffee shop or restaurant. One innovative group in Canby met at a neighborhood park to do a “walk and talk” with partners sharing their thoughts about the reading while enjoying the outdoors.
• What college credit is offered?
TAR Book Groups sponsored by the Portland Reading Council are eligible for one credit per 10 hours of meeting time from Portland State University. $65 per credit (contact Terri below)
• If our group receives financial support from the Portland Reading Council, how can we use the funds?
You may purchase refreshments for your meetings, help offset the cost of books, give gift cards to all participants, etc.
