Booktalks for Busy Teachers:

The Multnomah County Library offers lots of services to area teachers.  One of my favorite pages on their website is their discussion guides page:

http://www.multcolib.org/talk/guides.html

They have put together plot summaries, discussion questions, further reading ideas and, in a lot of cases, booktalks for over 200 titles for readers from grades 4 and up.  I can imagine busy teachers using these guides to spark students’ interest in books.  I’m planning on doing a few booktalks each week so even my reluctant readers have some ideas for books they might enjoy.

  1. Folks have been asking me for information to share with Hispanic families for summer reading. A terrific website to visit is http://www.colorincolorado.org for lots of information and activities for English and Spanish speaking families. All the content on the website is available in both languages. A search for “summer learning” will lead you to some fabulous resources.
